The Project 985

What is Project 985 ？

The Project 985 is another educational initiative. For the first time, Chinese President Jiang Zemin announced it on 4 May 1998 in a ceremony organized on the 100th anniversary of Peking University. This project was introduced to establish world-class universities in the 21st century and enhance the global standing of the Chinese education system. Currently, there are 39 universities sponsored by the project. The Project 985 has been succeeded by the 'Double First-Class' initiative.
